Project Overview
A long-term SEO strategy focused on high-intent accounting searches, trust and sustainable lead generation.
Butt Miller is a well-established Chartered Accountancy firm based in Camberley, Surrey, with decades of experience supporting businesses and individuals across core accounting services and specialist advisory work.

Despite a strong offline reputation, their website no longer reflected the quality, professionalism or modern approach the firm brought to client relationships. In a competitive local market, the site was underperforming as a channel for attracting new enquiries and supporting long-term client acquisition.
Butt Miller came to Targeted SEO with a clear objective: to reposition their website as a credible, commercially effective asset. One that would improve visibility in local and sector-specific searches, communicate expertise more clearly, and support sustainable business development rather than relying on referrals alone.
The Challenge
Butt Miller’s website was not performing as a meaningful acquisition channel. While the firm had a strong reputation offline, the site failed to reflect this online or convert search demand into enquiries.
Core service and advisory pages lacked the depth and clarity needed to perform well in competitive accounting searches. Content did little to address user intent, leaving potential clients without the reassurance, context or detail required to take the next step.
Local and regional visibility was also limited. Despite operating in a local market, the website had no structured local content to support discovery in high-intent location-based searches.
Beyond visibility, the site was not optimised for conversion. Inconsistent calls to action, unclear user journeys and a lack of CRO principles meant that even engaged visitors were unlikely to enquire.
Finally, the website lacked a clear and consistent brand voice. The firm’s modern, professional approach was not evident in either the design or the content, reinforcing a more traditional perception that no longer reflected the business.
An SEO approach focused on rankings alone would not have addressed underlying website issues or supported the firm’s long-term growth ambitions.

Our 360° SEO & Website Approach
An integrated SEO, content and website strategy built for financial services
To turn Butt Miller’s website into a reliable growth channel, we needed to address visibility, trust and conversion together. This required a structured, SEO-led approach that aligned website performance with the firm’s commercial objectives.
SEO audit & discovery
We began with a comprehensive SEO and website audit to understand how the existing site was performing across technical health, search visibility and user experience. This allowed us to identify where the site was failing to capture high-intent accounting searches, where trust signals were missing, and which technical and structural issues were limiting growth. Crucially, this stage informed both short-term priorities and a longer-term roadmap, ensuring improvements were made in the right order.
SEO Research & strategy
We then carried out in-depth research across audiences, competitors and search behaviour to shape a strategy grounded in real user intent. For an accountancy firm, this meant focusing on commercially valuable service-led and location-based searches, rather than chasing volume for its own sake. The resulting strategy prioritised visibility for Butt Miller’s core services and advisory work, while supporting long-term authority building in a competitive local market.
SEO-led website design & website development
The website was redesigned and developed with SEO and usability at its core. Key pages, including core service sections, were restructured to clearly communicate what Butt Miller does, who they help and why they should be trusted.
Page templates were created to support consistent messaging, strong internal linking and clear topical relevance, making it easier for both users and search engines to understand the site. Conversion rate optimisation principles were applied throughout, guiding visitors towards meaningful actions without relying on aggressive or sales-led tactics.

SEO content strategy
The financial services industry is highly competitive and trust-led. It’s essential for accounting firms to clearly demonstrate authority, experience, and relevance to rank well in search engines, be cited in AI search results, and be trusted by users. Since 2023, we’ve worked closely with Butt Miller on a comprehensive SEO content strategy. All work has been produced by our in-house team to the highest standards, to appeal to search engines, AI search tools like ChatGPT and, most importantly, readers.
Work has included:
- Service page enhancements – more informative, helpful and contextualised content
- Sector-focused content – high-quality local content to improve visibility in regional search
- Educational blog content – to build topical authority and send trust signals
On-page SEO & technical SEO
Every page was supported by robust technical foundations. This included improved internal linking, clear page hierarchies, metadata optimisation and clean content structures to support crawlability and relevance. These elements ensured that as new content was added, the site remained scalable, coherent and easy for search engines to interpret.
Local SEO
We created a local SEO strategy to improve visibility for Surrey and South East searches. This involved creating dedicated local content designed to meet the needs of users searching for accounting services in specific locations, strengthening geographic relevance and improving visibility for high-intent local searches.
Off-page SEO
In financial services, authority is not built through volume-led link acquisition. It is built through association with credible, trusted sources that reinforce expertise and legitimacy. To support Butt Miller’s long-term visibility, we developed an off-page SEO strategy focused on quality, relevance and trust. This went beyond basic citation management to include the creation and placement of content on established, authoritative websites within the finance, business and professional services space.
These placements helped strengthen Butt Miller’s domain authority while reinforcing key service themes and expertise areas through contextual backlinks rather than artificial or low-quality tactics.
Alongside this, we ensured consistent and accurate business citations across relevant platforms to support local trust signals and reinforce legitimacy in regional search results. This approach supported both traditional search performance and emerging AI-driven search experiences, where credibility, brand mentions and authoritative associations increasingly influence visibility.
SEO Consultations & reporting
Regular SEO consultations and transparent reporting ensured Butt Miller remained confident in performance and progress. This ongoing partnership and collaboration allowed the strategy to evolve alongside the business, keeping SEO activity aligned with commercial priorities rather than operating in isolation.
Results and organic growth
Measured growth from a long-term, SEO-led strategy
By focusing on long-term visibility, trust and user intent, Butt Miller’s website has become a consistent and reliable source of commercial growth rather than a passive online presence.

Over a 36-month period, keyword visibility increased by 363%, driven by improved performance across core accounting services, advisory offerings and high-intent local searches. This growth reflects sustained improvements rather than short-term ranking gains.
In the last 12 months alone, organic traffic increased from 28,000 to 41,000 sessions, representing a 45% uplift. Importantly, this growth has been driven by users actively searching for accounting services, not low-quality informational traffic.

Engagement has improved alongside visibility. There has been a 28% increase in engaged sessions, indicating that users are finding content that is relevant, informative and aligned with their needs.
Most significantly, meaningful user actions on the website have increased by 35%. These include interactions with enquiry forms, contact details and internal navigation, demonstrating that the site now supports conversion and business development rather than simple awareness.

We have been working with Targeted SEO and we are delighted with the results we are getting. They have a very defined process which we follow, that plays a big part in helping us get excellent results. They are clearly experts in what they do, very professional and good fun to work with.

Together, these results show the impact of a joined-up SEO strategy in a trust-sensitive industry like financial services. As search continues to evolve, including the increased influence of AI-driven discovery, the importance of authority-led, high-quality content and strong technical foundations will only grow.
The increase in enquiry-focused engagement has supported a more consistent flow of qualified inbound enquiries, reducing reliance on referrals alone.
