SEO-Led Website Design Case Study for The Landscape Service
The Landscape Service first came to Targeted SEO for a paid SEO audit. The audit showed that the existing website had strong visual assets, a respected brand and some search visibility, but it was working more like a portfolio than a structured lead-generation website. It needed clearer calls to action, stronger technical foundations, better local SEO structure and a more considered user journey.
Very in depth website SEO audit and understanding of our company. Professional presentation with proposed ideas and creative website concept.
Luke Mills – Director @ The Landscape Service
Following the audit, The Landscape Service chose Targeted SEO to design and develop a new SEO-led website. The client did not proceed with an ongoing SEO retainer at the time, so this case study focuses on the audit, website strategy, design, development, technical foundations, hosting and maintenance work.
The result is a more polished, search-ready website that better reflects the quality of The Landscape Service’s work and gives the business a stronger platform for future SEO growth.

The Challenge
The original website had strong imagery and useful content, but it was not working as hard as it could. The audit found that the site was closer to a digital brochure or portfolio than a structured SEO-led website. That is not unusual for design-led service businesses. The work looks great, but the website does not always make it clear what the user should do next.
The main challenges included:
- unclear calls to action
- limited conversion pathways
- technical SEO issues
- large image files affecting performance
- Core Web Vitals concerns
- redirect and crawl complexity
- blog content that needed stronger SEO structure
- missing or duplicated metadata
- local landing pages that needed more unique location-led content
- a need to make better use of the existing brand identity
- a need to better connect services, projects, locations and enquiries
The audit also highlighted an important point: SEO for landscapers is not only about ranking for “landscaper near me”. A strong landscaping website needs to show expertise, location relevance, project quality and clear reasons to enquire.
Our Approach
Landscaping SEO Audit & Website Review
The paid SEO audit gave the client a practical roadmap for improving the website’s search visibility, technical performance and conversion potential. Rather than simply listing technical issues, the audit looked at the website as a whole: performance, crawlability, design, content, local SEO, user experience and conversion potential.
As part of the review, we analysed Google Analytics and Google Search Console data, examined ranking and visibility trends, investigated technical crawl findings, assessed image performance and Core Web Vitals, and reviewed the site’s URL structure, redirects and metadata.
We also evaluated on-page SEO, blog content, local landing pages, calls to action, brand presentation and the overall user experience. This was useful because it showed that the issue was not one single problem.
The website needed a more joined-up approach. Website design, SEO, content and conversion needed to work together. That is exactly where SEO-led website design is valuable.

Website Design & Development
Targeted SEO designed and developed the new website with search performance and user experience in mind. The design direction was built around the brand qualities identified in the audit: professional, crisp, clean, visionary, sustainable, considerate, immersive and award-winning.
That meant the site needed to feel refined, but not empty. Visual, but not vague. Premium, but still practical. The website design introduced a stronger homepage structure, clearer calls to action and improved service navigation. Project work was presented more effectively, imagery was used more purposefully and information was organised with a clearer hierarchy.
We also improved the mobile experience, created more obvious contact routes and strengthened brand consistency throughout the site. The new website was developed in WordPress and launched on Targeted SEO’s hosting environment, with SSL, backups and ongoing maintenance support.

Technical SEO Foundations
Technical SEO was an important part of the project. The audit had identified several areas where the original landscaping website could be improved, including image handling, page performance, crawl pathways, metadata and how the site was structured. As part of the new website project, we built stronger technical foundations into the site from the beginning.
Local SEO Foundations
Local SEO was a major opportunity identified in the audit. The Landscape Service already had some visibility, but there was a clear opportunity to improve visibility across Dorset, Hampshire and other target locations. The local SEO strategy involved creating more focused landing pages.
The results
What Made This Project Successful?
The success of this project came from starting with an SEO audit rather than jumping straight into design. The audit helped identify what the website needed to do better. It was not just about creating a more attractive site. It was about making the website easier to use, easier to understand and easier for search engines to process.
The Landscape Service already had a strong brand and excellent project photography. The new website gave those assets a clearer structure. It also created a better foundation for future SEO.
That is the key point. This was not a full ongoing SEO campaign, but it did put the website in a stronger position. If The Landscape Service chooses to invest in SEO in the future, the site is now better equipped to support local landing pages, service content, project content and blog-led visibility.

Key outcomes from the project included:
- Paid SEO audit completed before the website project
- Clear SEO, UX and technical roadmap created
- New SEO-led WordPress website designed and developed
- Improved website structure and user journey
- Clearer calls to action
- Better use of The Landscape Service brand and project photography
- Google Analytics and Google Search Console setup
- Dedicated hosting, SSL and backups
- Ongoing website maintenance and support
- A stronger platform for future local SEO, service content and project-led search visibility
